“I want to do what I'm passionate about and things that are tailor-made for me – which is what Bettr is all about” – @Tumi213

After taking his friends’ feedback seriously, Tumi Ntlokwana, found freedom in pursuing his passion for music and connecting with people and The 213 Show: his podcast on music and life.

Marvellous Tshiunza sat down with him to figure out how he got started, and what his take on the pressure to pursue a 9-to-5 job is 👀.

Full Interview👇

Marvellous: If you’re wondering if I'm sitting next to an NBA player, that is not the truth. This is the big man, Tumi. How are you bro?

Tumi: I'm good. I'm happy. I'm in a good space. Yeah, a wonderful space 🤗

M: Let's dive straight into it, bro. What led you to podcasting man? 🎙️

T: Funny enough it was actually people 🧑‍🤝‍🧑 People  told me: “Listen, you're someone [who] is really good with people. People love listening to you. You make a lot of playlists. You're always plugging people into new music anyway. And you are a great conversationalist. So why don't you just do a podcast?”

Yeah, radio seems to be a bit more difficult to get into, whereas a podcast you can do at home, you know: comfort of your own space, your own equipment. I was like, “You know what? Let me give it a try.” And it's worked out really well. I'm really enjoying it 👌

M: So you said people love listening to you. If I tune into Tumi’s podcast, what can I expect?

T: The first half of it is basically me talking about life, so I have that as the first half just to get you interested – get you comfortable. And then in the second half, I'll give you new music 🎵

M: Wow, that is so cool, man. What's the brand [213] to you, man?

T: Actually, to me, 213 started from my Twitter handle. That's where it came from from there. And I decided to take what people know, and make it [my] brand, which is why my podcast is called The 213 Show.

M: Wow. And a brand that was attracted to you was the Bettr brand, of course. How do you think your brand and their brand align?

T: When it comes to the youth it’s that we're trying to – we're not even trying – we're shying away from the known journey and the known, travelled route of: “study, finish your graduation, go work in a nine-to-five,” you know.

And yes, there are people who do it, and I'm happy for them. I've been there and I see the benefits of it, but I'm also at a place where I want to do what I'm passionate about and things that are tailor-made for me – which is what Bettr is all about.

It feels good to know that I'm being introduced to an app that will treat me in that way – that will actually say, “Listen, you get your income from x, y, z. Okay. This is how you should navigate those finances.” You know what I mean? If you're gonna tell me that an app is gonna make my life easier, it's a win-win 🏆

M: Perfect 👌

T: Yeah, so that's how for me when I was introduced to it. I was like, “Okay, you're basically telling someone who never wants to spend half of their day physically somewhere [at a bank branch]. I want to be on my phone, I want to do everything I'm doing and my investments, and any of my finances on my phone.” That's basically what drew me to this brand so much.

M: Snap. Thank you so much for joining me 👏

T: Thank you for having me.

M: I’ll definitely be seeing you in the NBA next year 😂
